Bike DTOP
Biking to Downtown Oak Park has never been easier. Below we’ve highlighted biking information, much of which can be found on the Village of Oak Park’s website.
Fixit Bike Stations
Get the scoop on new bike shelters located near the CTA Blue and Green lines. Each new shelter houses a Fixit station, which includes all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. Click here for more information. Four Fixit stations can be found in Oak Park, including one in Downtown Oak Park adjacent to the Green Line at the intersection of Forest Avenue and North Boulevard.
Biking Tips from Active Transportation Alliance
The most important safety tips are to be visible and be predictable.
- Obey traffic laws, use hand signals and to ride in as straight of a line as possible.
- Wear bright clothing during the day and use lights in addition to reflective clothing at night.
There are many routes to bike through Oak Park, but most cyclist prefer to use low traffic streets to get around. East-west routes such as Le Moyne Pkwy, Erie St, Pleasant St and Harvard St, and north-south routes such as Forest Ave and Lombard Ave are good alternatives to high traffic streets.
