Meet Terry: the owner of KYURAMEN in Oak Park.
His entire life has been restaurants – growing up around them and working in them. He started as early as 14, filling in for bussers in family restaurants, and has worked every position under the sun. He has lived in Chicago for the last ten years but was traveling often, with more than 80 restaurants under his oversight. Just four months before COVID hit, he decided to take a break from the restaurant industry to spend time with family. For two years, he and his business partners scouted locations and waited for the right opportunity. Oak Park stuck out because they knew it would be a good fit for the community and they knew that specialty ramen wasn’t available nearby. They also heard about Thursday Night Out and loved the idea of getting involved in the community.
They waited 12 months after finding the location before opening, spending time renovating the interior and making sure everything was perfect. Their focus is on food quality, cleanliness, and great service. Everyone who works in KYURAMEN is a friend or family member of Terry’s, which is vital to keeping a welcoming environment for customers and employees alike.
One of their best-selling items is the omurice, a difficult dish that isn’t readily available in many restaurants and a special item that draws many customers to KYURAMEN from all over. Terry’s personal favorite item on the menu is the Sapporo miso ramen, and he is excited about the new rice burgers on the menu (sticky rice and chicken, crab, or eel). He is also a big fan of the beer and sake, with 16 different types of sake on the menu (and 50% off all alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from 2-5 pm Monday through Friday!).
Located right behind the fountain in Downtown Oak Park, KYURAMEN can serve you any way you want. The restaurant offers dine-in, carry-out, and delivery.
